Olivier Véran accuses elected officials wishing to participate in the march for Adama Traoré of “getting out of the republican arc”

The elected officials who called to participate on Saturday in the commemorative march for the seven years of the death of Adama Traoré, banned by the prefecture of Val-d’Oise, “come out of the republican arc”, accused the spokesperson on Friday. of the Olivier Véran government.

The Minister, who came to Grenoble to visit the police, the firefighters mobilized during the riots as well as the prosecutor and traders who suffered looting and damage, was questioned about calls, in particular from La France Insoumise (LFI), to demonstrate on Saturday despite the ban.

“To each his own battles”

“Sometimes you have elected officials who, when we accuse them of stepping out of the Republican arc, explain to us that we are exaggerating and then the next day, when a Republican decision is taken in the name of public security, say that they will disobey. I believe that the answer is in the question: they come out of the Republican arc on their own, constantly, ”he said.

Referring to the many traders and residents met throughout his visit to Grenoble, he added: “I assure you that people did not tell me “it is urgent to demonstrate”. They said “it is urgent to restore order” (…) Each one his fights”, he concluded.

“When your only proposal is to call for demonstrations tomorrow Saturday in the big cities that have not yet recovered from the looting, what are you doing it for? “, further challenged Véran, while the parliamentary group LFI-Nupes announced that “the associations organizing the march having decided to maintain the call, we will stand by their side tomorrow”.

Review appeal

Arguing from the flammable context and the urban violence of recent days, the prefecture of Val-d’Oise announced late Thursday evening the ban on this annual event. It was to be held on Saturday afternoon in the towns of Persan and Beaumont-sur-Oise to mark the seventh anniversary of the death of Adama Traoré during an arrest in 2016.

The administrative justice of Val-d’Oise examined an appeal from the Adama Traoré committee on Friday.
