Olaf Scholz: Those are his goals for the G7 summit in Hiroshima

At the summit in Japan, everyone is trying to be united. The G7 want to increase the pressure on Russia – but the instruments show that it’s not that easy.

The meeting hasn’t even started yet, when the first signal has already been sent. Which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, since the choice of summit location alone makes further explanations superfluous: Hiroshima, target of the first atomic bomb, was 80 percent destroyed on the morning of August 6, 1945. More than 70,000 people died immediately. Hundreds of thousands suffered the consequences decades later. A city that has seen the nuclear horror.
