Olaf Scholz: Opposition contradicts Chancellor’s economic promises

Olaf Scholz promised growth rates like in the 1950s. Opposition and some economists disagree.

The chancellor is dreaming of a second economic miracle – but Olaf Scholz is getting louder and louder criticism for it from the opposition and leading experts. “That’s auto-suggestion. Where is that supposed to come from?” Said CDU leader Friedrich Merz star. “We are behind the European average in all growth expectations.” The head of the ifo institute, Clement Fuest, also contradicts the chancellor: “The thesis of growth rates like during the economic miracle is not convincing.” And DIW boss Marcel Fratzscher demands: “First and foremost, the federal government should show how it wants to create the necessary conditions for the transformations and how they want to finance them before promising a new economic miracle.”
