At the Chancellor’s meeting
Scholz makes laughs with a Putin joke
At a civil dialogue in Füssen, Olaf Scholz had the laughs on his side. The starting point was the question of which heads of state the Federal Chancellor could imagine hiking with.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) could imagine a seven-day mountain hike with French President Emmanuel Macron. “I think he would come too,” he said on Thursday evening at a public discussion in Füssen in the Allgäu when asked which personalities he could most likely imagine such a hike from refuge to refuge with.
Scholz: No hut hike with Putin
Scholz also named Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez as a social democrat. “It’s also one that I think could keep up in sport and make it over there.” And then there are a few others “who are quite nice”. But he would not go on a hike with a head of state, said Scholz: with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In the summer of last year, the Chancellor went on a hiking holiday with his wife Britta Ernst in Nesselwang in the Allgäu, not far from Füssen. This year he wants to go to “friendly European countries”. The exact resort is not known.
