Olaf Scholz and Emmanuel Macron need to mend their relationship – opinion

It’s a good thing that Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron are dining together this Wednesday. Eating together at the highest level has often eased, if not saved, Franco-German relations. The male friendship between Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Schröder only came about after the two had declared their heated trials of strength at a “dîner” in Alsace to be over. Although it really is here dinner must be called and not English dinnerbecause Chirac despised Anglo-Saxon, especially British cuisine, which is why he generally distrusted the British – but not the Germans.
