Oktoberfest 2022 in Munich: construction of the Wiesn tents has begun – Munich

The construction of the Wiesn started three weeks earlier than usual so that damage can be detected and repaired early after the long Corona break. For residents and passers-by, however, this entails restrictions.

After a two-year Corona break, the Oktoberfest is actually taking shape: construction began on Monday. Three months before the tapping, forklifts and trucks are rolling through the festival grounds. The beer tents come first, followed by the rides. From September 17th, the largest folk festival in the world will be celebrated again after it was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

Due to the long break, construction begins three weeks earlier than usual so that any damage to the infrastructure, for example, can be identified and repaired in good time. There are pipes for water, sewage, gas and electricity under the Theresienwiese. The cloth on the tents could have been damaged. The skeleton of the Bräurosl tent has been there since mid-May, and the craftsmen have now returned. It is being completely rebuilt and still needs to be technically checked.

For safety reasons, the construction site may not be entered,…

The construction means restrictions for residents, cyclists and passers-by: for safety reasons, they have to avoid the 34-hectare site. The two main streets on the Theresienwiese are closed – the Wirtsbudenstraße from north to south completely, the Matthias-Pschorr-Straße below the Bavaria will only be opened temporarily in August. In the coming weeks, the construction site will continue to expand. Until shortly before the start of the festival, there will be hammering and screwing, so that it can be said again: Ozapft is!
