Offspring of wild wolves in Veldensteiner Forst – Bavaria

In the Veldensteiner Forest near Bayreuth there are apparently offspring among wild wolves. A photo trap photographed two animals. One of them is a she-wolf with recognizable teats, said the Augsburg-based Bavarian State Office for the Environment. The recording was made on June 23. “This is a renewed proof of reproduction for the wolf territory in the Veldensteiner Forst,” says the statement.

The Veldensteiner Forst in the border area between the administrative districts of Upper Franconia and Upper Palatinate is one of about eight areas in Bavaria where wolves who are loyal to their location – individual animals, pairs or packs – live. Other areas include the Allgäu Alps, the Rhön or the Altmühltal. The settlement of wolves in Bavaria is controversial. Farmers in particular are concerned about their livestock.
