Paul Wanner has both German and Austrian citizenship, which is why the ÖFB is now getting hopeful.

Paul Wanner is one of FC Bayern’s greatest hopes for the future. Now the ÖFB wants to win the DFB talent for the Austrian national team.

Paul Wanner only celebrated his 16th birthday in December – and the attacking midfielder can already look back on three Bundesliga appearances for FC Bayern.

Wanner was born in Dornbirn and has Austrian and German citizenship. Wanner is currently playing for Germany’s U17 national team. But the ÖFB also has the super talent on the list.

ÖFB sports director raves about Paul Wanner

“We became aware of Paul Wanner last late summer. The initial contact with Paul’s management took place through Oliver Lederer, who, as the responsible team leader for the 2005 vintage, expressed the ÖFB’s great interest in Paul. I’m also in contact with Paul’s environment , we know his exact situation,” says ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel laola1.

Schöttel continued: “He grew up in Germany and the DFB is very interested in him playing for Germany. But of course he’s also an extremely interesting player for us, the dynamics of his development surprised everyone.”

Accordingly, Schölttel is said to have already had a personal conversation with Wanner, and a meeting with team boss Franco Foda is to follow. The catch: At Wanner, the trend is currently towards Germany. However, a final decision has not yet been made.
