Obituary: Mourning for Theo Rottmayer – Ebersberg

Theo Rottmayer dedicated a significant part of his life to local politics: he held various offices for a total of 36 years, 24 of them as mayor of Oberpframmern. He has now died at the age of 78.

Rottmayer’s political life in the Ebersberg district began in 1978 when he became a member of the Oberpframmer municipal council. Twelve years later, the Free Voter was elected mayor, three times the Oberpframmerer confirmed him in office – and would have done it a fourth time. But the community had grown during Rottmayer’s tenure, which also meant that the mayor’s job, which was initially honorary, was that of a “municipal electoral officer” from 1996 – and has an age limit. Therefore, the then 70-year-old Theo Rottmayer was not allowed to run for a fifth term in 2014.

A lot has happened in the municipality of Oberpframmern during Rottmayer’s tenure

The often heard and written sentence that someone had a formative effect with his office definitely applies to Theo Rottmayer. During his years as mayor, a lot has happened in the municipality of Oberpframmern, above all the expansion of the sewage system. This, as the then mayor once described to the SZ, was the prerequisite for further local development, including a new commercial area and children’s home. Last but not least, Mayor Rottmayer’s term of office was one of financial consolidation: when he handed over the business to his successor Andreas Lutz (CSU) in 2014, Oberpframmern was one of only two debt-free municipalities in the Ebersberg district.

Born in Birkenstein – that’s in the district of Miesbach – he came to the municipality of Oberpframmern in 1968. Before going into politics full-time, he had an office supplies business. Theo Rottmayer was also involved in his community outside of the committees. Among other things, he was chairman of the TSV for 25 years, where he also led the men’s and ski gymnastics.

Rottmayer was also active in district politics, including as Deputy District Administrator

In his second term as a municipal councillor, he was elected deputy mayor to the then incumbent Andreas Obermaier, whom he then politically inherited in 1990. In the same year, Rottmayer was also elected to the Ebersberg district council – here too he rose to vice after his re-election: from 1996 to 2002 he was deputy to District Administrator Hans Vollhardt (CSU). For a total of twelve years – from 1996 to 2002 – Theo Rottmayer was also chairman of the Glonn administrative community.

For his services, the Oberpframmer municipal council appointed him former mayor in 2014. He once summed up his political life as follows: “Thank God I can now say: I’ve experienced a lot – and Oberpframmern is doing pretty well.”

The funeral service for Theo Rottmayer will take place on Wednesday, November 9th at 2:30 p.m. in the parish church of St. Andreas. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
