Obituary for the musician Georg Riedel: Hymns for Bullerbü – Culture

You probably have to have been through a Swedish winter to understand what a big, loving, almost nature-religious fuss people there make about summer. Or, to get closer to the Swedes’ love of summer, you can listen to the song “Idas Sommarvisa”, from the Michel television film “Michel brings the world to order” from 1973: “Just don’t believe that summer will come without someone there gets going,” sings actress Lena Wisborg in her toddler voice. And further from the water in the streams, from green meadows, flowers, a pink colored sky and, most importantly, wild strawberries, in Swedish they are called “smultron”, the insignia of summer.
