His deep, polemical voice was always there. It lingered on France like a familiar soundtrack for sixty years. The famous political journalist, interviewer and former broadcaster Jean-Pierre Elkabbach was such a prominent figure in the French public that now that he has died in Paris at the age of 86, all the political figures of the Fifth Republic are included in the obituaries parade – so to speak as extras, as his conversation partners on radio and television, often mercilessly abused by the interviewer.
