Obituary for Hubert Hierl: respectful and sensitive – Freising

The CSU city councilor and long-time Freising cultural and festival advisor Hubert Hierl died unexpectedly on Tuesday at the age of 77. When the CSU local association spread this sad news via Facebook, there was great dismay on the internet.

Hubert Hierl was popular, even with his political opponents. In dealing with his fellow human beings, he was always friendly and obliging. In city council debates he tried to find a compromise and consensus even in the most violent disputes. He didn’t like bad words. He would much rather have a conciliatory glass of wine together after the session.

Hubert Hierl also carried out the post of Freising Volksfestreferenten, which he held for years, confidently and with his own charming nonchalance. At the official tapping dates, he gave humorous speeches, also with cross-references to culture in general and, in particular, his hobbyhorse.

Hierl studied agriculture in Weihenstephan, where he also received his doctorate. He then worked in the Ministry of Agriculture before becoming an agricultural officer and state representative at the Bavarian State Chancellery. From 1988 to 1994 Hierl was entrusted with setting up the then new “Brussels Information Office” of the Free State of Bavaria, which later became the Bavarian representation to the European Union. Hubert Hierl was a district councilor and in 1996 took over the local chairmanship of the CSU in the city of Freising, which Jürgen Mieskes now leads. Hubert Hierl has been a member of the Freising City Council for the CSU since 2002.

Hubert Hierl is involved in many areas in Freising. The Freising Music School and the town twinning between Arpajon and Freising were always close to his heart. “The Freising culture, the city music school and I personally owe him a lot,” said the former director of the Freising Music School, Martin Keeser, via Facebook. Johannes Becher, Member of the State Parliament of the Greens, also aptly described Hubert Hierl in his post: “I have seen him as a great friend, supporter and connoisseur of culture. But above all as an incredibly respectful person and a sensitive conversationalist. A great Freising personality, even if he is that would probably never have said that about himself. “

Nor would he. Because Hubert Hierl was a real gentleman.
