Obituary for Damo Suzuki: The Shaman – Culture

If you want to experience the incredibly suggestive music of “Can”, you should listen to “Paperhouse” on the album “Tago Mago” – one of the great albums in rock music. In 1971, the band presented this title live in the beat club, and what makes this performance so legendary is not the naked torso of bassist Holger Czukay, but the Japanese Damo Suzuki. The way he dances, screams, tosses his long hair back and forth with ecstatic eyes, forms the ideal contrast to the musicians playing with utmost concentration, driving the whipping rhythm to the point of ecstasy.
