Oberstdorf: Sick hikers rescued from mountain hut – Bavaria

Because they got gastrointestinal complaints, the victims had to be brought down to the valley by helicopter. What led to the serial disease was initially unclear.

In Oberallgäu, 18 sick hikers were rescued from a mountain hut by helicopter on Thursday. According to the District Office in Sonthofen, those affected got gastrointestinal complaints during their stay at the hut.

A spokesman for the district authority reported that they were members of a group from Upper Bavaria consisting of more than 40 people. The sick were flown with the rescue helicopter to the cross-country skiing center in Oberstdorf. The healthy in the group could run into the valley themselves.

The other guests of the mountain hut and the staff there did not experience any symptoms. What led to the serial disease was initially unclear. The authority does not assume that those affected were infected at the mountain hut. The rooms in which the sick stayed should still be disinfected.
