Obersendling: Tempo 30 on Aidenbachstraße – Munich

In order to make the way to school safer for children, the city wants to introduce a 30 km/h speed limit on a section of Aidenbachstraße. The new speed limit should apply between the new high school and Boschetsrieder Straße, according to the city’s mobility department.

Parents, school management and local politicians had previously expressed concerns, because in future many of the children will have to cross the busy, confusing Ratzingerplatz on their way to class. With the forthcoming start of the school year, the children of the elementary school on Zielstattstrasse are moving to a new building on Boschetsrieder Strasse.

Many parents would have wished for a more far-reaching solution for more safety, such as a new bridge, a pick-up and drop-off zone for schoolchildren, or escorts on the way to school. But according to the police, Ratzingerplatz, which is passed by up to 22,000 cars every day, is not a black spot. The fact that there is always a crash at the intersection of Boschetsrieder and Aidenbachstrasse is nothing unusual by Munich standards.
