Oberschleißheim – Steam and color frenzy – District of Munich

Two extraordinary annual calendars have now been launched in Oberschleissheim. The hobby photographer and railway enthusiast Alexander Bauer has put together “Railway impressions away from the main roads” for the year 2022 under the motto “Watch out for the train”. In memory of the recently deceased painter and graphic artist Jürgen Pichler, his long-time friend Hans Treff published a compilation of his works and pictures.

Alexander Bauer is the manager of the courtyard garden in Schleißheim Palace and has been an enthusiastic hobby photographer for more than 30 years, especially of rural railways, and as an honorary member of the board of a medium-sized railway company, he is also an expert on the scene. The calendar for 2022 gathers more than 30 partly large-format motifs on 13 calendar pages. Most of the images in the 2022 calendar were taken during scheduled rail operations in Germany and Austria from 2019 to 2021. Nonetheless, one feels “whether the old infrastructure has often been transported back to the railway times that were unfortunately almost bygone,” says Bauer. The pictures showed the decay of infrastructure as well as successful examples of maintaining or reactivating routes. The calendar is available from November 24th at the tourist office in Wilhelmshof in Oberschleißheim and at “Schreibwaren am Schloß”, Freisinger Straße 11, at a price of 36 euros. Proceeds will be donated to children in need.

The calendar with watercolors by Jürgen Pichler is available at the tourist office, at the “Sirius” bookstore in Garching and at the “Art & Weise” bookstore in Unterschleißheim and costs 20 euros. “This retrospective covers a period from 1985 until his premature death”, describes Hit, “and documents only a minimal part of his creative power.” In particular, he shows “a riot of colors of his own, even unique form”.
