Oberschleißheim: Oliver Zeidler uses his home advantage – district of Munich

For local hero Oliver Zeidler, the European Rowing Championships in Munich started with a win. Unfazed by a mishap at the start, the 2019 single world champion still won the preliminary heat on Thursday and thus went straight into the semi-finals. On the Olympic course in Oberschleißheim, which is his home, the 26-year-old relegated the Bulgarian Kristian Wasilew to second place after a large deficit at the beginning with a lead of a good boat length. On the other hand, the Germany eight missed a win as expected. Just like five weeks ago at the World Cup final in Lucerne, the DRV parade boat around batsman Torben Johannesen (Hamburg) had to admit defeat to the currently overpowering British, but reinforced its claim to a medal as a preliminary second. The start of the European Championship was not very successful for the rest of the DRV fleet. With a total of ten DRV starts in the 14 Olympic classes, there was only one victory for Zeidler.
