Oberschleißheim – No more air filters for the schools – District of Munich

There will be no other mobile air filters in the Oberschleißheim schools in 2022 either. As early as 2020, the municipal council rejected corresponding advances by the SPD and only installed additional systems for a few poorly ventilated rooms. Instead of mobile air filters, however, permanently installed ventilation systems should be retrofitted in both schools, the committee decided in 2021.

During the 2022 budget consultations, the town hall administration informed that this retrofit would be significantly more expensive than planned and would entail some structural difficulties, which is why the project was called off again. Because there was no stationary solution, the Social Democrats called for mobile devices again, but this was again rejected by 14 votes to five by the CSU, FW, Greens and FDP against the SPD and ÖDP.

The SPD had emphasized that the risk of infection with Covid-19 had increased significantly since face masks no longer had to be worn in schools. It had previously been argued that the additional protection of a ventilation system was negligible if everyone had mouth and nose protection, so the weighting has now changed. “As much as it would be desirable, the pandemic is not over yet,” the application says. “The air purifiers could make an important contribution to further dealing with it,” according to the SPD.
