An 80-year-old from Munich was fatally injured in a traffic accident in Oberfoehring on Friday afternoon. The man wanted to cross Cosimastraße with his bicycle at a pedestrian crossing at Salzsenderweg when he was hit by a tram on line 37 going out of town and thrown to the side.
According to the police, the 48-year-old tram driver gave a warning signal and slowed down before the senior drove off. Although the 80-year-old was wearing a helmet, he sustained such severe head injuries that he died at the scene of the accident, despite immediate resuscitation by a doctor who happened to be there. While the accident was being recorded, Cosimastrasse in the city center was closed for about two hours, and tram lines 16 and 37 were also interrupted.
