Oasis, Orangina, Pulco… Have sodas been contaminated with “eternal pollutants”?

Analyzes carried out by the regional health agency in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes revealed last week that the drinking water of 166,000 inhabitants was polluted with PFAS. The region’s industries are not spared either.

Traces of “eternal pollutants” were detected in one of the sources from which the Orangina factory located in Meyzieu, in eastern Lyon, obtains 20% of its supplies, indicates this Tuesday morning Progress. The presence of perfluorinated compounds is “slightly” above the quality limit.

Drinks intended for mass distribution

The factory, which produces millions of cans and bottles of Orangina, Schweppes, Oasis and Pulco for mass distribution, was forced to take measures. It will have to filter the water using an activated carbon system. In the meantime, she assures the regional daily that no trace of “eternal pollutants” appears in the finished drinks.

“Water quality is monitored according to a plan established by the Authorities with analyzes carried out by an accredited state laboratory. No other substance was found among the hundreds of molecules covered by the ARS plans,” she specifies.
