Nuremberg: The Lorenzer rectory is inaugurated – Bavaria

The new Lorenzer vicarage in the heart of Nuremberg will be officially inaugurated this Friday, August 5th, by the Nuremberg Protestant regional bishop Elisabeth Hann von Weyhern. The Bavarian Bible Museum, the Lorenzer shop and, in the future, the integrative “Bistro Laurentius” are housed in the building complex, the regional church announced on Thursday. The parish of St. Lorenz has received a parish hall and offices and the church tax office has been accommodated in the new building. The four-storey building replaces the earlier building complex with pastor’s apartments and parish hall in the vicinity of the large Lorenz church. The inauguration date for the Lorenzer Hof had been repeatedly postponed due to the corona pandemic. More than twelve years have passed from the first planning to the inauguration of the project of the Evangelical Bavarian State Church. The main reason for the significantly longer construction time than originally planned were archaeological finds: wall paintings, coins, a cistern and an old vicarage wall from the 15th century, which was integrated into the new building. According to the information, the building cost around 16 million euros. The regional bishop said that the Lorenzer Hof was a showcase project. She is pleased that the regional church together with the parish of St. Lorenz in the heart of Nuremberg’s city center have been thinking about the future. “The one-world shop directs the perspective towards a more just world, the museum opens up access to the past and present of our faith, the future bistro as an integration company invites people to linger,” said Hann von Weyhern.
