Nuremberg: police officer accused of five rapes – Bavaria

The trial against a police officer on allegations of fivefold rape began on Wednesday in front of the district court in Nuremberg-Fürth. Prosecutors accuse Marc G. of forcing four women to have sex against their will between January 2017 and November 2021. In addition, the 33-year-old is said to have stolen cash of at least 5,600 euros in the police service from apartments whose residents had died.

At the beginning of the trial in the Nuremberg criminal justice center, one of the four representatives of the private prosecutor applied for the public to be excluded at least for that part of the first day of the trial on which the first victims of the rapes were to testify. The court granted the request. The remarks touched on “the most intimate areas of life,” said the presiding judge as a reason. The public interest does not prevail.

Previously, Marc G. had remained almost the entire nine-minute indictment reading without any emotion and with a view to the prosecutor. He only lowered his head when describing one of the five rapes he was accused of, only to look back a few seconds later with the same stony face. The father of four has been in custody for eleven months.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, G. is said to have exploited the post-traumatic stress disorder of a victim who was in a so-called dissociative state, meaning that he “only perceived his surroundings as clouded and could not speak to him”. In another case, G. is said to have handcuffed his victim and then raped him.

The defendant took the floor at the start of the trial, but has not yet commented on all the allegations. In view of the complexity of the allegations, the court asked that the submissions be spread over several days of the hearing.

His partner is said to have asked him to steal

First G. renewed his confession in one of the two thefts from the deceased. “I really regret having stolen a dead person. From a human point of view, this is the very last thing,” he said, but partially rejected the responsibility: one of the women with whom he was in a relationship at the time and who he is said to have raped him, given the couple’s financial problems, asked him to steal: “Maybe you’ll find something,” she is said to have said, according to G., when he told her about the operation in a dead man’s apartment. He denied the second alleged theft.

G. also presented the case of the first rape, which was negotiated at the beginning of Wednesday, completely differently from the public prosecutor’s office. He did not have sexual intercourse with the alleged victim while she was in the dissociative state. Instead, the woman only got into this state when he grabbed her pants after a consensual kiss. He then dialed the emergency number, but the alleged victim regained consciousness after a few minutes. The statement of the woman followed behind closed doors.

A total of ten days of negotiations are scheduled for the process. It will continue on Thursday.
