Nuremberg: mother drowns baby – five years in prison and accommodation – Bavaria

The 27-year-old killed her few-month-old daughter in the bathroom. Because the woman suffered from depression after childbirth, she is considered to be of reduced criminal responsibility and remains in a psychiatric ward.

Because a young woman drowned her baby in Middle Franconia, she was sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter and remains in a psychiatric hospital. The district court in Nuremberg saw it as proven on Monday that the 27-year-old killed her four-month-old daughter in the bathroom of her apartment last June. Then she cut her wrists and called the emergency services. She confessed to the crime in court. The verdict is not yet legally binding.

The young woman suffered from depression after her birth. Therefore, in the opinion of the chamber, she was significantly less culpable, explained a judicial spokeswoman. She should therefore remain in a psychiatric hospital until the treatment is complete. After that, a decision can be made as to whether the possible remaining term of imprisonment will be suspended on probation.
