Nuremberg metropolitan region: fateful year for the tram between cities – Bavaria

The StUB will run from Nuremberg via Erlangen to Herzogenaurach – currently the largest tram project in the republic. It has been planned for more than three decades, but whether it will actually happen is anything but certain.

The urban-surrounding railway between Nuremberg, Erlangen and Herzogenaurach is currently the largest tram project in Germany. If all signs are not correct, the “StUB”, as it is also called, is in for a fateful year. On June 9, 2024, the day of the European elections, the people of Erlangen will decide whether to move forward with the plans for an intercity tram. The city would only be bound to the vote for one year. Erlangen’s Mayor Florian Janik (SPD) has already made it clear that he would consider the entire project, which is estimated at 730 million euros, dead if it were rejected.
