After the arrest of the suspected Nuremberg gunman in Rimini, Italy, the 28-year-old is about to be extradited. The Italian authorities had approved a corresponding request from the public prosecutor’s office in Nuremberg-Fürth, said a spokeswoman for the authorities on Wednesday. “We expect a transfer shortly,” said the spokeswoman.
The man is said to have shot two men in a restaurant in the south of Nuremberg in October last year. While a 35-year-old survived the attack with serious injuries, a 30-year-old man subsequently died in hospital. The alleged perpetrator comes from Turkey and came to Germany via the Ukraine. According to the investigating authorities, he wanted to set up a trade in tobacco and shisha products in Germany. Several media in Germany and Italy had reported on his possible links to organized crime. After a three-month search, the man was discovered under a false name in a hotel in Rimini. He was overpowered in his sleep. Since then he has been in custody in Italy.
