Nuremberg: 4000 white sausages to strengthen US soldiers – Bavaria

Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had edifying words ready for the 200 US soldiers who have arrived at Nuremberg Airport to protect NATO’s eastern flank, but also a welcome gift: the Free State is giving them 4,000 white sausages. So not only for the newcomers – eating up to five pieces would still correspond to the typical national tradition, but 20 per person would be a bit much – but to send them to the troops in Grafenwoehr.

Of course, this is discussed up and down in social networks. There is the faction of always complainers, who accuses Söder of “show politics” or sees “tax money wasted”. There is the humor section, which is amused by the “slack stomach” that threatens the Americans the next morning, or asks whether Söder has added mustard – because he is known to be good at it, so add his mustard. But there are also many people who simply consider it a “nice gesture” and “Bavarian hospitality”. One writes: “Let the boys get something real between their teeth.” Probably one comes with the reading of the truth but the closest.

It must also be mentioned that sending Bavarian delicacies as a contribution to international military policy is nothing completely new in Bavaria. 300 kilos of local meat loaf were made available for the NATO troops in Lithuania in 2017, with best regards from Munich, it was sponsored by the state butcher’s coagulation. Just as the physical well-being of the military body has historically been considered a Bavarian matter of the heart.

In a protocol of the Chamber of Deputies from 1843, one can read about debates about pay, a “meat allowance” should be her. After all, as one speaker explained, one cannot live on “a small piece of meat and a few vegetables while exercising, vaulting and bayonet fencing all day long”. In addition, it was complained that in some places in the kingdom a double beer penny was levied, which made it enormously difficult for the soldiers to feed themselves.

Well, it was not possible to find out how the mustard or wheat beer was doing with the current donation. But even so, it’s probably just a nice gesture. They should taste it!
