In connection with the right-wing extremist “NSU 2.0.” Threatening letters, a former police officer has been charged. He is said to have owned illegal weapons. What role he plays in the affair about the threatening letters is still being investigated.
A former police officer who was suspected in connection with the threatening series “NSU 2.0” has been charged with illegal possession of weapons. The district court of Landshut will decide “in the near future” about the admission of the indictment, said a court spokesman at the request of the dpa agency. It is still unclear when the proceedings will start there.
The Bavarian Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism (ZET) at the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged the man with possession of a so-called forearm rifle and two semi-automatic self-loading pistols and ammunition without permission.
Allegations against ex-officials and his wife
In the summer of 2020, allegations against the then 63-year-old ex-civil servant from Landshut and his wife became known that they had written right-wing extremist threatening letters with the sender “NSU 2.0”. The couple is suspected of having sent several letters with insulting, inciting and threatening content to members of the Bundestag and various other addressees. The ex-police officer has rejected the allegations according to earlier information from the Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office. He and his wife were briefly arrested.
Illegal requests for personal information
The “NSU 2.0” threat letters were sent to politicians and a Frankfurt lawyer, among others. In several cases, the letters were presumably preceded by illegal inquiries about personal data on Hessian police computers. The proceedings for illegal possession of weapons, which could soon be negotiated in Landshut, have been separated.
The main investigations into the threat allegations are still with the Frankfurt public prosecutor and, according to a spokeswoman, have not yet been completed. The investigators assume, however, that the couple played a subordinate role in the affair surrounding the threatening series and spoke of “free riders”.
