A teenager in Cologne is said to have threatened people with a knife. The police intervene and shoot. The 16-year-old is now in the hospital – and many questions remain unanswered.

The Police in Cologne shot a 16-year-old who, according to witnesses, threatened several passers-by with a knife. After the incident on Tuesday evening, the teenager was receiving intensive care in hospital, the police and public prosecutor’s office said. A police spokesman said on Wednesday afternoon that the young man’s life was not currently in danger. But he doesn’t expect him to be fired any time soon, the spokesman said. According to current findings, the 16-year-old is said to have been hit in the groin area.

The background to the incident in the Blumenberg district and the exact sequence of shots fired initially remained completely unclear. It was not known on Wednesday whether only one shot was fired or whether several shots were fired.

Several witnesses reported to the police that the 16-year-old was running after passers-by with a knife in his hand. The police spokesman did not comment on reports on Wednesday that the young person also attacked the emergency services that arrived with the knife. It also initially remained unclear whether a knife was actually found on the person who was shot. Since there were indications that the 16-year-old may have consumed alcohol and drugs, a doctor took his blood on the orders of the police. .
