State election in North Rhine-Westphalia:CDU claims to form a government, SPD is combative, Greens cheer
- North Rhine-Westphalia has voted. According to projections, the CDU with incumbent Wüst (about 35 percent) is well ahead of the SPD with challenger Kuchaty (about 27 percent).
- The Greens, with top candidate Mona Neubaur, have improved significantly to around 18 percent.
- FDP and AfD stabilize at a good five percent.
- Possible alliances are black-green, a traffic light or a grand coalition. It would not be enough for red-green at the moment.
