For centuries there have been reports of a sea monster said to live in Scotland’s Loch Ness. Recently there was another search – unsuccessful. Now photos continue to fuel the myth of Nessie.
New images of Loch Ness have reignited the myth of an unknown creature in the Scottish loch. The British newspaper “Telegraph” printed photos of a woman showing the lake. It features small hills jutting out of the water, leaving slightly rippled waves on the surface.
Pictures several years old
The pictures were taken in August 2018. At that time, the 51-year-old Chie Kelly-Kano photographed the famous lake in the Highlands from the north-east corner. She told the newspaper that she withheld the pictures at the time for fear of making a fool of herself.
Only the large-scale search for Nessie last weekend, in which the 51-year-old volunteered with her husband Scott Kelly and daughter Alisa, inspired her to go public. Kelly-Kano told the newspaper what she saw looked like a snake.
It was clearly a living thing and it moved.
Nessie Seeker: Images remarkable
Steve Feltham has been searching for Nessie for 32 years. According to the newspaper report, he rated the pictures of Kelly-Kano as “remarkable”. They are “a justification for all people who believe that there is something unexplained in Loch Ness.” Feltham also said he checked the photos. His first conclusion: He still doesn’t know what can be seen there. A further review is now necessary, said Feltham.
According to many scientists, however, there is no evidence of an unknown creature in Loch Ness. The sightings could therefore be large eels or catfish, otters, seals or just driftwood.
Reports of a sea monster in Loch Ness have existed for centuries. When a local newspaper reported the sighting of a “whale-like” creature in 1933, a Nessie hype began that attracted adventurers and visitors from beyond Scotland. Nessie has long been the best-known tourism ambassador for the British part of the country.
