With Bärbel Schäfer: Sat.1 is relaunching the RTL format “Notruf”. For Schäfer, returning to private television is a matter of the heart.

Sat.1 is bringing an old RTL format back to German television. As the broadcaster announced, “Notruf” – or “NOTRUF” – will start on April 22, 2024, because that’s how Sat.1 writes the program to differentiate it from the original. It ran between 1992 and 2006 on competitor RTL, moderated by Hans Meiser (1946-2023). The idea for the format came from Rudi Carrell (1934-2006). Both the original and the new version recreate the operations of rescue workers.

The moderator of the new edition is Bärbel Schäfer (60). With her commitment, she wants to show her appreciation for emergency doctors, whose “love and strength for their profession” she admires, according to the press release. “Emergency and rescue workers are there when we are in need. They provide life-saving initial measures to seriously ill and injured people in accidents.” , Schäfer is quoted by the broadcaster.

For Sat.1 boss Marc Rasmus, Bärbel Schäfer is the perfect presenter for “Notruf” due to her “experience, credibility and authenticity”. “It’s time for real heroes,” says the station boss, according to the announcement about the project.

Bärbel Schäfer’s return to private television

Sat.1 not only used the format from RTL, but also from the presenter. Bärbel Schäfer hosted an afternoon talk show named after her for Cologne between 1995 and 2002. “Notruf” marks her return to private television. The native of Bremen had recently made herself rare there, mainly hosting a weekly talk format on the radio station hr3.

“Emergency Call” runs every working day at 6 p.m. on Sat.1 and Joyn from Monday, April 22nd. A thematically related format “Lebensretter hautnah” is currently running on this slot.
