“Nothing New in the West” nominated for 14 Baftas – Culture

The German anti-war film “Nothing New in the West” has received the most nominations at the British film awards known as “Baftas”. The Netflix drama by director Edward Berger was nominated in 14 categories, as the Baftas officials announced on Thursday – including best film, best director, best male supporting actor (Albrecht Schuch), as well as visual and sound effects and Production and costume design.

“Nothing new in the West” is also Germany’s Oscar candidate. The tragic comedy The Banshees of Inisherin, set on the Irish coast, and the sci-fi film Everything Everywhere All at Once each received ten nominations in different categories, closely followed by the biographical drama Elvis with nine. The music drama “Tár” has five nominations, one of them for Cate Blanchett as the female lead. This year’s Baftas will be presented in London on February 19 and will be hosted by British actor Richard E. Grant.
