- “Whatever the result, The Voice cannot bring me positive, ”he admits.
Former professional rugby player, Marvin Roth, 29, born in Nice, left for Paris four years ago to make a living from music. He confides to 20 minutes its ambitions through its participation in the TF1 program The Voice.
How did you get started in this career?
I grew up in a family of artists so with music. When I was younger I took four singing lessons and the coach told me he had nothing more to teach me. It was always my first passion even though I lived rugby, my second passion, until 2017. After a while, music started to take up too much space in my life and I could no longer combine the two I then made the choice to leave everything for the music by proving to myself that I could do it without hiding myself.
Why “without hiding”?
My rugby friends knew that I was making music, but not necessarily that I was singing. It is a fairly “roomy” universe. I always kept a certain modesty on this subject. When I first appeared on television at the blind auditions, those who were unaware were very surprised to find me that way. I have received a lot of kind messages. Finally, I know that if I had let myself go in front of them earlier, they would have supported me anyway.
Former professional rugby player, you are used to games. How do you feel during this competition?
Nothing compares to The Voice. For me, it was the best time to have this kind of experience. It was my first scene, in a time when nothing can happen because of the coronavirus. It’s disturbing because without an audience, we are really alone in front of the turned seats. So when Amel Bent hit the buzzer, it shocked me. For the rest, I’m just happy and impatient to go on stage and share a moment of music with another artist.
How do you think you will make the difference to win your place?
I play on the sensitivity and texture of my voice. I want my performance to reflect who I am, as natural and human as possible. I am extremely fortunate to have the advice of Amel Bent. In the end, whatever the result, The Voice can not bring me positive.
