“Beer tent is just beer tent” – right?
Reading time: 4 mins
Drink alcohol and drive? A joke. Unemployed as “Diogenes in the bin”? No offense. Söder and the CSU provoked a lot at the Gillamoos folk festival – and the day after they were surprised at the criticism. Aren’t you allowed to say everything in the beer tent now?

A speech in the haze of a beer tent can leave its mark, even on the prime minister’s clothes. On Monday, after his performance at Gillamoos, Markus Söder (CSU) first slipped out of his shirt and traditional jacket into a fresh polo shirt before the brass band escorted him from the fairground. A little later he changed his shirt for a black suit. He had to go to Fürstenfeldbruck to commemorate the 1972 Olympic assassination. In the beer tent, Söder praised the Bavarian “joie de vivre”, shortly afterwards he spoke about the assassination, which “found a bad and shattering end” at the Fürstenfeldbruck air base. And a few hours later? Put Söder in a traditional jacket again, as a speaker at the Erding Autumn Festival.
