Apparently no gas is leaking from the damaged Nord Stream 1 pipeline either, reports Denmark. This was already the case with Nord Stream 2 yesterday. Russia believes it is possible to repair the pipelines.
According to Danish information, the gas leak from the damaged Nord Stream 1 pipeline has also apparently come to a standstill. This would mean that no more natural gas would escape from the leaks in the two pipelines. An end to the gas leak at Nord Stream 2 was announced on Saturday. The Danish energy authority relies on Nord Stream AG.
Previously, large amounts of gas had escaped continuously for days from the four leaks in the two pipelines – two of them in Swedish waters, two in Danish waters. Many states assume sabotage.
Sweden: Gas leak cleared
The Swedish authorities had already spoken before the Danish and announced that the gas escape from the leaks had further decreased. After a flight over the exit points on Saturday afternoon, the coastguard announced that the two leaks in Sweden’s exclusive economic zone were still leaking gas over an area of 100 meters in diameter and the smaller leak over an area of 15 meters in diameter.
Forecasts assumed that Brexit should stop on Sunday. However, the Swedes announced that they and their operational teams were also prepared for a longer period of time. Ships are required to avoid the area in the Baltic Sea on a large scale.
Russia: Can be repaired
Both pipelines lead from Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. Both the West and Russia believe the leaks were caused by sabotage. Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the West for this. Several Western countries have suggested that Russia is behind it.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexeander Nowak said on state television: “Certainly there are technical possibilities to rebuild the infrastructure.” However, this requires time and appropriate resources. But first it has to be found out who is behind it, Nowak said on the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin.”.
