Around 350 police officers searched several apartments in the Düren district. The five residents are said to have planned a terrorist attack.
With a large contingent, the police had several apartments in the early Thursday morning Düren district searched. The residents are suspected of having planned a serious act of violence that is dangerous to the state, as the public prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf and the Cologne police announced.
They are accused of “using propaganda material from the foreign terrorist organization ‘Islamic State’ to prepare for an act motivated by terrorism,” the press release said.
No arrests
According to this, the Central Office for Tracking Terrorism in North Rhine-Westphalia is investigating five men between the ages of 16 and 22 who live in the Düren district. According to information from the police, they are all German citizens, two of whom also have Russian citizenship and one of the suspects also has a Turkish passport.
There were no arrests. “The prerequisites for ordering pre-trial detention are currently not in place,” said the police and the public prosecutor’s office. The evidence will first be evaluated. Around 350 police officers were therefore on duty under the direction of state security.
