The dilapidated motorway bridge near Lüdenscheid on the important north-south axis A45 is blown up. This was announced by Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) on Monday.
“Today we received the news that the technical requirements for blowing up the Rahmede viaduct are in place. We are taking advantage of this opportunity to speed things up for the region,” explained Wissing. “A modern, efficient infrastructure” should be made available as quickly as possible.
Next Thursday, the transport minister wants to announce further details together with Autobahn GmbH
New building could be finished faster
With the decision to blast instead of demolition, the planned new construction of the viaduct could be significantly accelerated. The new bridge could be ready in five years at the earliest. Until now, it was unclear – partly because of several buildings in the area – whether it was safe to blow it up.
Bridge may no longer be driven on
Since January 7, it has been clear that the closed Rahmedetal Bridge can never be opened to traffic again. Demolition and new construction should now be pushed ahead as quickly as possible.
A large part of long-distance traffic is currently forced to drive through Lüdenscheid – a major burden for residents and commuters.
