During a raid in a residential area near Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia, investigators discovered a warehouse with war weapons. An arrest warrant was issued against a 32-year-old. According to “Spiegel” he is an explosives expert in the Bundeswehr.

The district court in Frankfurt am Main has issued an arrest warrant against a 32-year-old man who is accused of violating the War Weapons Control Act. Investigators had previously discovered an arsenal with war weapons during a raid in Aldenhoven in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia. In a residential area, they came across firearms, grenades, hand grenades and mines.

According to the “Spiegel”, the suspect is a captain and explosives expert in the Bundeswehr. The public prosecutor did not want to confirm or deny this.

Customs intercepted suspicious package

Because unknown chemicals were also discovered in the house, the emergency services consulted an expert from the Federal Office for Radiation Protection to evaluate the findings. According to the customs investigation office in Essen, some substances had to be destroyed on site.

The operation had already started on Tuesday. Customs had previously intercepted a package with silencers that the 32-year-old is said to have given up. The authorities therefore initiated proceedings and obtained a search warrant.

A political background is currently not recognizable, said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt am Main.
