The tone from North Korea is becoming sharper again: the regime is threatening to sink a US aircraft carrier that has arrived in South Korea. Meanwhile, Washington announced that Pyongyang has already delivered weapons to Russia.
North Korea responded to the arrival of the US aircraft carrier “Ronald Reagan” in the port of Busan in South Korea with a sharp threat. As the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, the regime in Pyongyang threatened to destroy the nuclear-powered US aircraft carrier.
The “USS Ronald Reagan” arrived in South Korea yesterday as a show of force against North Korea, which has continued to advance its nuclear program in recent months – contrary to relevant UN resolutions.
Strengthen military and political cooperation
The visit serves to promote military cooperation between the USA and its partners in East Asia and is intended to strengthen relations between the USA and South Korea, said the commander of the “Ronald Reagan”, Seth Koenig, upon arrival in Busan.
Although this aircraft carrier regularly visits South Korea, this visit was special, Commander Koenig told an AP reporter. The defense alliance between South Korea and the USA has existed for 70 years. In addition, cultural relations between the two countries should be strengthened and cooperation between the armed forces should be further improved.
Rocket technology for North Korea
According to US information, North Korea has recently delivered more than a thousand containers of military equipment and ammunition for the war against Ukraine. The containers were brought by ship from North Korea to Russia in recent weeks, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in Washington. “We condemn the People’s Republic of Korea for supplying this military equipment to Russia,” Kirby said. The military equipment is being used to attack Ukrainian cities and kill Ukrainian civilians.
According to Kirby, there is a suspicion that Russia is also supporting North Korea in return. “We assume that North Korea expects military support from Russia in return for its arms deliveries. Fighter aircraft, surface-to-air missiles, armored vehicles and parts for ballistic missiles. We have observed that Russian ships are unloading containers in North Korea, which are on them indicates that there have already been such deliveries to North Korea.”
Exchange of goods has increased significantly
Freight traffic has also apparently increased significantly on the border between North Korea and Russia. The US think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) recently released satellite images showing what it said was a dramatic and unprecedented increase in freight wagon traffic. The transport of covert containers has increased since North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of September, it said.
