North Korea fires missile – Japan calls on residents to evacuate

After North Korea launched an unidentified ballistic missile, Japan on Tuesday issued a warning urging some of its residents to go to shelters. “North Korea appears to have launched a missile. Please evacuate to buildings or basements,” the government said in a warning released at 7:29 a.m.

The state broadcaster NHK reported that the warning applies to two northern regions of the country. The missile apparently flew over Japanese territory before crashing into the Pacific Ocean.

South Korea warns against a decisive reaction

According to the South Korean military, a medium-range ballistic missile flew in the direction of the Sea of ​​Japan (Korean: East Sea) and past Japan on Tuesday (local time), the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported. Accordingly, the rocket was launched in the northern North Korean province of Jagang near the border with China.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol warned against a decisive reaction. According to him, the rocket flew 4,000 kilometers.
