Klaebo wins cross-country skiing classic on Holmenkollen

Norway dominates over the 50 kilometers in Oslo. A German cross-country skier shines in the women’s race.
Norway’s cross-country skiing star Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo has won the distance classic on Holmenkollen. The 27-year-old sat down Oslo came through after 50 kilometers in the classic technique ahead of Martin Loewstroem Nyenget and Paal Golberg.
Klaebo could not be defeated on the home stretch of the Norwegian triple success. The best German was Friedrich Moch in 16th place. Moch stayed in the leading group for a long time, but lost a lot of time in the last few kilometers.
Things had gone much better for the women over the same distance the day before. Katharina Hennig sprinted past Teresa Stadlober from Austria on the home straight and came third. After her strong finish, with which she landed 0.2 seconds ahead of Stadlober, Hennig stretched both hands up, completely exhausted.
“Simply unbelievable. I’m incredibly proud of myself. I’m very, very proud of myself for rocking it so much,” said Hennig on ARD after the feat. The victory went to Frida Karlsson from Sweden, who prevailed with a lead of 1:19.3 minutes over her compatriot Ebba Andersson. It was the first 50-kilometer race in the classic technique for women.
