Former Nordic skier Frenzel becomes a coach on the World Cup team

From the cross-country ski run to the cross-country ski run: Shortly after retiring, Eric Frenzel was given a new role in the Nordic Combined World Cup team. His former national coach also remains active.
One month after the end of his career, Eric Frenzel becomes the coach of the Nordic Combined World Cup team.
As the German Ski Association (DSV) announced, the 34-year-old three-time Olympic champion will be part of the coaching team around the experienced Kai Bracht and Heinz Kuttin.
The trio should jointly take over the tasks of the previous national coach Hermann Weinbuch. The 63-year-old retired after 27 years and 57 medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships.
He takes on the role of head trainer for young Nordic combined. “The German Ski Association and I have agreed that I will continue to contribute my sporting knowledge and experience to the development of the discipline,” said Weinbuch.
“Staying true to Nordic Combined”
The previous national coach had recently repeatedly campaigned for a change from Frenzel as coach to the World Cup team. “Nordic Combined was my life and will be so in the future. This discipline has given me so much, so it goes without saying that I will remain true to Nordic Combined,” said Frenzel.
The most successful Nordic athlete, with 25 medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships, not only wants to get involved as a trainer, but also wants to fight for the Olympic future of the sport. “It is absolutely necessary for the preservation of the combination that former athletes and big names are also committed to it. As part of the coaching team in the World Cup, I am directly involved in the sport, have an international network and can therefore do my part for an Olympic future for the discipline contribute,” stressed Frenzel.
