The viewers just can’t get enough of it: ARD won the day on Thursday with an episode of the crime series “Nord bei Nordwest”. And that, although the film was not running for the first time.

No other genre is as popular on German television as crime fiction. Whether it’s the Sunday “Tatort”, the eternal “Wilsberg”, the obligatory Friday thriller or the “Rosenheim Cops” – almost everything that has anything remotely to do with crime and reconnaissance finds viewers. But hardly any format has been as successful in recent years as the crime series “Nord bei Nordwest”.

The cases involving the stuffy veterinarian and ex-cop Hauke Jacobs (Hinnerk Schönemann) regularly lure millions of people in front of the screen on Thursday evenings. This is also the case this time: The episode “Derbang” convinced 5.29 million viewers and won the day by a clear margin. The market share was 24.2 percent.

“Nord bei Nordwest”: Also successful as a repeat

The amazing thing: ARD was not showing the film for the first time. This story was already broadcast on January 7, 2021. In it, the new commissioner Hannah Wagner (Jana Klinge) arrives in Schwanitz and is initially welcomed by Jacobs with anything but open arms. He still mourns the death of Lona Vogt. However, over the course of the 90 minutes, the two investigators become friends.

8.16 million people tuned in at the time. The second time it was three million fewer, but still the majority of TV viewers. ZDF couldn’t keep up with “Jurassic World”, only 2.87 million people wanted to see the dinosaur adventure from 2015. After all, among young audiences, ZDF won the day with 720,000 viewers and a market share of 16.0 percent.

The next two Thursdays could be similarly successful for ARD: Then the station will show two more repetitions of older “Nord bei Nordwest” cases from 8:15 p.m. “Conny & Maik” will be shown on September 1st, followed a week later by “In the Name of the Father”. Both films were also broadcast in January 2021. Any bet: The viewers will still tune in again.
