Nocturnal feminist demonstration calls for a “strike” on March 8

They want to launch a “feminist strike”. More than a thousand “feminist and anti-capitalist” demonstrators marched Monday evening in Paris, ahead of International Women’s Rights Day, according to AFP, to denounce the pension reform project and “bring an alternative to the capitalist, racist and sexist system”.

They met at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Opéra Garnier and then marched from 8 p.m. towards the Town Hall. Among the slogans visible on the signs, we could read “Neither god nor man”, “let’s destroy the patriarchy, not the planet”, “hell is men”, or “sexism is everywhere, we too” .

“Chosen non-mixed”

The initiative comes from the feminist AG association Paris-Banlieue, which organized this “feminist night march” for those who “cannot afford to demonstrate at 2 p.m.” [la manifestation de mercredi 8 mars, journée internationale des droits des femmes, démarre à 14 heures à Paris et dans environ 150 villes en France]activist Arya Meroni told AFP.

The nocturnal procession was in “chosen non-mixedness”, open to women, transgender people and gay men, in other words to “all people who are directly or indirectly affected by sexist violence and patriarchy, including homophobia which is a form of patriarchy,” added Arya Meroni.
