No trace of flammable product detected

The first conclusions of the experts are now known. Two days after the Vaulx-en-Velin fire, during which ten people died, the scientific police did not find any trace of flammable product in the samples taken from the scene, we learn from the Lyon prosecutor’s office.

“However, it is not possible for the experts, at this stage of their investigations, to determine whether the origin of the fire is voluntary or accidental”, adds Nicolas Jacquet, the public prosecutor of Lyon. On the other hand, the conclusions “tend to confirm” that the fire started from the ground floor of the building. Research is continuing “actively” to determine “the exact causes and circumstances” of the disaster.

Solidarity kitty

In addition, all the victims have been identified. Four children are part of it, said the prosecution this Sunday while the previous report reported five minors among the dead. On Saturday, 600 people gathered in front of the Hôtel-de-Ville of Vaulx-en-Velin to pay tribute to them, also showing their solidarity with the survivors. A kitty opened on the Internet had collected more than 65,000 euros on Saturday afternoon. Thirty-eight families, or a hundred inhabitants, are in “urgent need of relocation”, according to the metropolis of Lyon.
