Although partly overshadowed by abundant national and international news, the Covid-19 has not disappeared. And if vaccination has limited its scope, many opponents continue to defend their position.
A rumor on social networks could also go in their direction, so much so that many Internet users share it, Yves Pozzo di Borgo in the lead. The former senator posted a tweet claiming that the Spanish Ministry of Health had “confessed” to the deaths of 452 people due to Covid-19 vaccines. A “clap of thunder”, according to Yves Pozzo di Borgo… which turns out to be false information. 20 minutes make the point.
FAKE OFF
To support his statements, the former senator – and several Twittos – share a publication from the Courrier du Soir site. The article in question claims that a report by the Spanish Medicines Agency (AEMPS), which depends on the Ministry of Health, confirmed that “452 people have died from side effects of the vaccine since the start of the vaccination campaign in 2021” in Spain.
The author cites as source the Redaccion Médica, a Spanish media dedicated to health. A link is even available. The article in question speaks well of the report of the Spanish Medicines Agency, which deals with the side effects of the various vaccines injected into the country.
If the article mentions 452 deaths among the 75,978 cases of undesirable side effects detected (for 102,480,101 doses injected), it does not directly link these deaths to vaccines. To get to the bottom of it, let’s take a look at this report.
Deaths without a homogeneous reason
Published on July 27, 2022 and available on the website of the AEMPS, it analyzes the number of cases of undesirable side effects detected, their nature, the profile of the people (age, sex, etc.) who experience them after injection for each of the six vaccines authorized in the country. Menstrual disorders, fatigue, abdominal pain, headaches, diarrhea… All the effects are scrutinized.
In the section “Notificaciones de acontecimientos adversos registradas en España” (Notifications of adverse events registered in Spain), it is reported that among the reports of adverse events, 13,369 were considered serious as of July 10, 2022. It is here that it is stated that of these serious cases, 452 resulted in death.
But the report immediately clarifies that these events cannot be considered “vaccine-related” simply because they were reported: “In the vast majority of reported cases, there is a medical history and concomitant medication. Death can also be explained by the patient’s previous clinical situation and/or other treatments he was taking, and the causes of death are diverse, without presenting a homogeneous pattern. »
Deaths from other causes continue during vaccination
The report adds that vaccination does not reduce deaths from causes other than Covid-19. And so, during the vaccination campaign, these deaths continue to occur, sometimes in “close temporal proximity” to the administration of the vaccine, without this being related.
The agency adds that deaths, among the cases of serious side effects reported, are continuously assessed by the medicines agencies of the European Union.
In view of the study presented, it is therefore incorrect to say that the 452 deaths listed are due to vaccines against Covid-19.
