In the debate about funding for the German games industry, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck reiterated his no to increasing the budget. He would have liked to have provided more money, but couldn’t, said the minister on Thursday during a tour of the Gamescom computer games fair in Cologne: “Everyone has to save, the finance minister is forcing everyone to make savings proposals everywhere, i.e. to spend less money .” Habeck suggested examining other forms of help, such as state guarantees for crowdfunding, the placement of venture capital investors or a start-up fund.

The Federal Ministry of Economics plans only 48.7 million euros in funding for German games companies in the coming year. This year it was 70 million euros. The association Game demands 125 million euros.
