Nine departments on orange wave-submersion and/or flood vigilance this Saturday

The weather on Saturday will be very unsettled, rainy and windy over a large northwest quarter and an orange wave-submersion and/or flood alert will be in effect in nine coastal departments, according to Météo-France forecasts.

The departments affected by the risks of waves-submersion are Finistère (29), Morbihan (56), Loire-Atlantique (44), Vendée (85), Charente-Maritime (17) and Pas-de- Calais (62) for high seas on Saturday afternoon, with also an orange alert at the start of the night. Flood vigilance is underway in the departments of Finistère (29), Charente-Maritime (17), Gironde (33), Landes (40) and Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64).

In the morning, the northern half will see numerous showers. They will be locally stormy over the northwest quarter. Then a new active rainy disturbance will arrive via Brittany. It will spread quickly to the north-western quarter with intense precipitation at times then it will slowly sink into the interior of the country, extending in the evening from the Charentes to the north-eastern borders.

Strong gusts of wind

Behind, showers will be active, particularly on the Channel coast. From southern Aquitaine to the south-eastern quarter, the weather will remain clear of disturbances with nice clearings.

The southwest wind will be strong over a large northwest quarter, with gusts blowing up to 70 to 90 km/h inland and locally up to 100 km/h. We could fear violent and localized gusts of wind at more than 100 km/h near the coast of southern Brittany in Vendée. Strong gusts of up to 100 km/h or more will be expected over the western half of the Pyrenees. The wind from Autan will remain moderate.

Temperatures will be quite cool in the early morning in Occitanie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and PACA, counting 2 to 8 degrees, locally a slight frost possible, however it will be milder on the Mediterranean coast.

In the rest of the country, temperatures will be uniform, around 8 to 10 degrees. In the afternoon, the thermometer will display 13 to 18 degrees over the northern two thirds and up to 20 to 22 degrees further south.
