Joachim Kaiser was a man full of strange stories. Occasionally, the legendary SZ critic, laughing gently to himself, would talk about one of his students, a retired master baker, who, after reading Homer’s legendary stories “Iliad” and “Odyssey”, asked him whether there were more like that. But there isn’t. Only these two epics have come down to us from the entire ancient world, plus “The Voyage of the Argonauts” by Apollonius of Rhodes, which hardly anyone knows. The art connoisseurs of the time didn’t think anything more was worth transferring. Why actually?
