“It was very spontaneous. I didn’t want any hype”: singer Nik P. reveals in an interview how his wedding in the Maldives came about.

Nik P. (59, “One Star”) married his partner Karin in the Maldives earlier this year. It was a dream wedding in a very small circle. In an interview with spot on news, the singer reveals why he wanted to marry his girlfriend in exactly this way and what his “Candlelight Blanche Unplugged” tour is all about.

You tied the knot with your partner Karin on the Maldives. How did the application go?

Nik P.: After dinner I knelt down in front of Karin at a beach restaurant in the Aah Atoll on the Maldives and proposed to her. I opened the box with the rings and… she said yes.

Why did you choose the Maldives as your wedding location?

Nik P.: That was quite spontaneous. I didn’t want any hype. I wanted it very intimate and intense just for the two of us. Shortly before leaving for vacation, I decided to propose to her on the island. I secretly organized the wedding with the resort office. Our two friends Carmen and Patrik, who were on holiday with us, only found out when they applied that they would be the witnesses the next day.

They both didn’t really want to get married anymore. What changed your mind?

Nik P.: When I met Karin more than four years ago, I was newly divorced and had lost my faith in the deep bond of marriage. The pandemic started two years ago and we’ve really been through thick and thin together during this time. Despite being close together day and night for months, we never argued. On the contrary! We always started the new day with positive thoughts and tried to make the best of it. Karin took great care of me and always made me laugh, even though it was sometimes very difficult for me during this time.

What has changed in the relationship since you said yes?

Nik P.: It is a beautiful feeling to show our love for each other and the close connection of our souls through the rings on our fingers. It gives us strength and makes us strong for the future.

Your wife is also your manager. Is it difficult to be a spouse and professional partner at the same time?

Nik P.: Karin had her own real estate and administration company for several years. After more than 25 years she wanted to do something different and got an insight into the music business through me. Two years ago I asked her if she would be interested in working more closely with me on business. After this “trial period” I gave her my fullest confidence at the beginning of the year and put the management and the booking in her hands.

You celebrate your 60th birthday on April 6th. What do you have planned for the celebration?

Nik P.: It will be a small celebration in the closest family circle. The ongoing pandemic and the restrictions do not allow a big celebration anyway.

Does this milestone birthday mean something to you?

Nik P.: Yes, of course. I can look back on a wonderful 60 years and am grateful that I can still fully fulfill my calling as a musician and performer.

The corona pandemic has turned life upside down for many people. How did it change you?

Nik P.: The pandemic made me rethink my time management. In the years before I was driven like a man, rushing from appointment to appointment. Friends and family always had to follow my schedule. That is also the reason why I now want to have management and booking in-house. To select and filter; to have more time for the important things in life: family and friends.

They go on an X-Mas tour under the motto “Candlelight Blanche Unplugged”. What can your fans look forward to?

Nik P.: To an intimate concert event. My songs are performed reduced to the essentials. By candlelight and without great technical effort. The focus is on text, music and interpretation. Back to the roots.

Is there a song among your hits that stands out for you among the others?

Nik P.: There are quite a few. For example, the song “Born to love you” is one of the most successful compositions for me personally. But also “Who distributes the colors” or of course “A star that bears your name”.

Is there a song of yours that you no longer enjoy playing or listening to?

Nik P.: There isn’t a song I don’t enjoy playing or listening to.

What wishes and goals do you have for the coming period?

Nik P.: In times like these, everyone and I want PEACE! I very much hope that everything will turn around for the better and that the pandemic will soon no longer be an issue. And then I wish I could be on stage for a few more years to do what I was born for: to sing.
